| In 1996 I started a personal website about the captive care of reptiles and amphibians. As my knowledge grew, so did the website, eventually containing many care sheets, reptile and amphibian stories, book reviews, and links to other herp websites. In 1999 I took a break from the virtual reptile and amphibian world, and left the old website unattended. Three years later I began a new project: amphibiancare.com The goal of amphibiancare.com is to share information about reptiles and amphibians with other enthusiasts. Over the years I’ve learned a great deal through firsthand experience, literature, communications with other hobbyists, and the internet, and I hope to extend this knowledge to those seeking amphibian or reptile information. Although I do offer occasional animals for sale on this site and I do hold a dot com domain, it is not a commercial project. The objective of this website is to spread ideas and knowledge about the captive care of reptiles and amphibians.
My name is Devin Edmonds. My interest in amphibians and reptiles started at a young age. I remember going on bird watching trips with my Dad when I was five or six years old, and rather than looking at birds through the pair of binoculars on my neck, I preferred to turn logs and rocks to search for the native Wisconsin reptiles and amphibians. When I was seven years old I saved up my allowance for what seemed like forever to buy an aquarium. During trips to our local fish supply store I was fascinated by the green tree frogs and rough-skinned newts that were commonly found for sale. The first amphibian that I kept was a green tree frog. That was where the obsession began. It's now over fourteen years later, and since that first green tree frog I've cared for many other species.
![]() I live in Madison, Wisconsin, where I work at a local pet store called Animart. I mainly work in the fish department, but get to use my reptile and amphibian expertise from time to time as well. I'm currently an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. I’m majoring in Zoology. When I'm not caring for my animals, at work, or attending class, I enjoy listening to evil music and playing guitar. I play guitar in the grind-metal band Pain Tractor.
My personal collection of reptiles and amphibians resides in my parent's basement. My dad and I built a room down there in the Winter of 2003/2004 specifically for my growing number of animals. At the moment, my collection consists mostly of tropical amphibians. Of particular interest to me are reptiles and amphibians from Madagascar, such as the familiar leaf-tailed geckos and mantella frogs. I breed a few of the animals I keep, and sometimes vend local reptile shows. Below is a list of the animals I am currently working with. To view photographs of those animals please use the photo gallery.
