Saint Louis Zoo Herpetarium

By Devin Edmonds

In April of 2004 I took a trip to Saint Louis with my father. We made a goal to visit the Saint Louis Zoo and view their reptile and amphibian collection. The Saint Louis Zoo has one of the largest collections of reptiles and amphibians in the United States. They maintain and breed some of the world's rarest herps including the Fiji Banded Iguana (Brachylophus fasciatus), the Puerto Rican Crested Toad (Peltophryne lemur), The Wyoming Toad (Bufo baxteri) and the Asian Box Turtles (Cuora species). I had such an amazing experience the first day I visited the zoo that I went back the next morning to see the collection again. Below are photographs I took of some of the animals and their enclosures.
